Israeli Strikes Kill Children and Journalist in Gaza Despite Ceasefire

At least six Palestinians, including two young children and an Al Jazeera cameraman, were killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Friday, highlighting the continued human cost of a conflict that remains far from resolved despite an ongoing ceasefire.

The deadliest incident occurred before dawn when an Israeli strike hit a residential building in Gaza City, killing two sisters aged four and fourteen. Several members of the same family were injured in the attack, according to Palestinian health officials.

Hours later, additional strikes were reported in central Gaza, where Ahmed Wishah, a cameraman working for Al Jazeera, was among those killed in the Bureij refugee camp. His death has drawn renewed attention to the dangers faced by journalists covering one of the world’s most closely watched conflicts.

Al Jazeera condemned the strike, describing Wishah as a dedicated journalist documenting the realities of life in Gaza. The Israeli military said it was targeting militants and alleged that Wishah had links to Hamas, an accusation rejected by both the broadcaster and Hamas officials.

The latest deaths come amid a ceasefire that has significantly reduced large-scale fighting since October but has failed to end violence altogether. Palestinian authorities report that more than 1,000 people have been killed in Israeli military actions since the truce began, while Israel says its operations are necessary to prevent future attacks and target militant threats.

The incident also raises fresh concerns about the protection of civilians and media workers in conflict zones. International press freedom organizations have repeatedly warned about the growing number of journalists killed during the Gaza war, calling for greater safeguards and independent investigations into their deaths.

As diplomats continue efforts to secure a broader and lasting peace agreement, Friday’s strikes serve as a stark reminder that the road to stability remains uncertain. For many Gazans, the ceasefire has ended the intensity of full-scale war, but daily life remains marked by loss, fear, and the constant threat of renewed violence.

While political leaders debate the future of the region, ordinary civilians continue to bear the heaviest burden of a conflict that shows few signs of truly ending.
